Wormwood's constituent is thujone, which in excessive quantities can cause poisoning. For this reason, the production, distribution and consumption of absinthe was banned for a time in some European countries. The ban has now been lifted, although some restrictions have been introduced. However, it turns out that wormwood has many other uses. Dried leaves are used in herbalism and culinary applications. Thanks to its characteristic herbal-bitter taste, wormwood works well as an ingredient in infusions and certain dishes. It blends perfectly with the bitter taste of yerba mate.
